At least 90 people have died in a car bomb explosion in the capital of Somalia, an international organisation working in the country said.
The blast at a security checkpoint left over 90 civilians injured and killed mostly students returning to class, according to Mogadishu Mayor Omar Muhamoud.
Ahmed Awad, the foreign minister, called the victims “students with ambition” and “hardworking men and women”, and said two Turkish citizens died in the attack.
Abdirizak Mohamed, a Somalian MP, reported the toll could be as high as 90 people, with most being civilian casualties.
The bomb exploded during morning rush hour in Mogadishu and targeted a tax collection centre, according to police.
